Sundar Pichai Says AI Will Create More Jobs, Not Take Them

AI Will Support Human Roles, Not Eliminate Them
Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai recently addressed growing fears about artificial intelligence replacing workers. Speaking in San Francisco, he clarified that AI is designed to assist people, making them more productive—not to push them out of jobs.
He explained that AI tools are helping engineers by handling repetitive tasks, freeing up their time for more impactful and innovative work. Rather than shrinking the workforce, he believes this technology will open new roles and strengthen existing teams.
Company Growth Is Far from Slowing Down
Despite some strategic layoffs over the past few years, Pichai emphasized that Alphabet is not scaling back—it’s actually expanding. From self-driving technology at Waymo to breakthroughs in quantum computing and a booming YouTube creator ecosystem, the company is moving full-speed ahead.
He highlighted YouTube's growth as a prime example, with over 100 million channels and thousands crossing the million-subscriber mark—reflecting a creator economy that’s flourishing alongside AI.
Acknowledging Risks, But Staying Optimistic
Pichai also acknowledged concerns raised by other tech leaders, including the possibility that AI could impact entry-level office jobs. While he respects these opinions, he stressed the importance of ongoing discussion and responsible development to ensure AI benefits everyone.
Is AGI Around the Corner?
When asked about the future of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), Pichai remained cautious. He admitted that while advancements are moving quickly, it’s hard to say how soon—or even if—we'll reach AGI. There may be breakthroughs, or we might hit roadblocks. Either way, the path forward will require care and collaboration.
