How to add AI to your Crisp chat

Four steps, no engineer required.

1

Generate Crisp plugin API tokens

From the Crisp Marketplace developer area, generate a new plugin with data:read and data:write scopes. Copy the Plugin ID, Token ID, and Token Key.

2

Paste tokens into InsiteChat

In your InsiteChat dashboard, open Webhooks & Integrations → Crisp. Paste your Crisp Website ID, Plugin Token ID, and Plugin Token Key. Click Connect.

3

Configure webhook in Crisp

Copy the webhook URL InsiteChat shows you and paste it into your Crisp plugin settings so Crisp notifies InsiteChat about new messages.

4

AI handles first-line replies

Done. The next time a visitor messages your Crisp chat, InsiteChat reads the question, retrieves relevant content from your knowledge base, and replies in under 10 seconds.

Why Crisp teams use InsiteChat

Purpose-built for RAG-grounded answering, not a generic chatbot wrapper.

AI first-line support, 24/7

Every incoming Crisp message gets read by InsiteChat and answered from your knowledge base — docs, help center, website content. No scripting, no decision trees, no maintenance burden.

Grounded in your own content

Answers come from the content you train the chatbot on. No hallucinated features, no made-up pricing, no fabricated policies. Every response can cite the source.

Clean handoff to Crisp operators

When the AI hits its confidence limit or the visitor explicitly asks for a human, it escalates. Your Crisp operators pick up with the full AI conversation history as context.

Stays silent when a human is active

Once one of your Crisp operators replies in a conversation, the AI backs off automatically so agents aren't fighting the bot. Turn AI back on with one click if needed.

Cut agent workload 40-60%

Teams that deploy AI auto-reply on their top 20 FAQ questions typically see ticket volume drop by half, freeing their agents for complex or high-value conversations.

Sub-10-second first response

Median first-response time drops from minutes to seconds. CSAT goes up, queue length goes down, and your team sleeps through the night.

Who this is for

Three production patterns we see from Crisp users who add AI auto-reply.

Overnight and weekend coverage

Most support queries arrive after 6pm local time. Let the AI handle deflection overnight and only wake your team when a visitor explicitly escalates.

Cut median response time 30x

Going from a 5-minute average first response to a 10-second AI reply is a CSAT lever your team can pull this week — no hiring, no new tools, no new processes.

Ramp new support agents faster

New agents watch the AI answer with knowledge-base-grounded responses and learn your product voice by osmosis. Great for onboarding support teams.

What InsiteChat handles inside Crisp

The clear line between what the AI does and where a human takes over.

  • Answer incoming support questions using your own docs
  • Resolve FAQs without operator involvement
  • Escalate complex issues to human Crisp operators
  • Pass full conversation context on every handoff
  • Stay silent once a human operator joins the conversation
  • Reduce average first-response time from minutes to seconds

Your knowledge base stays yours

InsiteChat trains a private, per-workspace vector index. Your content is never mixed with other customers' data and is never used to train any underlying language model. Crisp API tokens are encrypted at rest. You can delete your workspace, tokens, and indexed content at any time.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about adding AI to your Crisp chat.

How does the Crisp AI integration work?

Crisp fires a webhook to InsiteChat whenever a new message arrives. InsiteChat generates an answer using your trained knowledge base, then posts it back into Crisp via the Crisp API. The visitor sees it as a regular operator message.

What happens if the AI doesn't know the answer?

InsiteChat is configured to say "let me get a human on this" and escalate — it won't hallucinate. The conversation stays in Crisp for your operator to pick up with full message history preserved as context.

Do I need a paid Crisp plan to use this?

You need a Crisp plan that allows Marketplace plugin installation (Crisp Basic and above). InsiteChat itself works on the free plan, including the free tier.

Can the AI reply in multiple languages?

Yes. InsiteChat auto-detects the visitor's language and replies in the same one, as long as your knowledge base content supports it. We support 95+ languages including RTL scripts like Arabic and Hebrew.

Will the AI interfere when one of my operators is typing?

No. Once any Crisp operator replies or is actively typing, the AI steps aside and doesn't post. It resumes only if the conversation sits idle and a new visitor message arrives without operator follow-up.

Can I disable the AI for specific conversations?

Yes. You can pause the AI per-conversation from the InsiteChat dashboard, or add a tag like #no-ai in Crisp that InsiteChat respects.

How is this different from Crisp's built-in MagicReply?

MagicReply suggests replies for a human to approve. InsiteChat auto-sends replies without human approval, and is grounded in your specific knowledge base rather than a generic language model.

What does the Crisp integration cost?

Free on every InsiteChat plan. You pay only for InsiteChat message volume. Crisp charges separately for their plans — the integration itself adds no cost.
